Device description of the HFA-3
The HFA-3 is a broadband radio receiver and a selective band receiver for verification and appreciation of high-frequency signals. The logarithmic periodic antenna ranging from 10 Mhz to 3 Ghz covers the frequency ranges of terrestrial analog and digital broadcasting, cellular mobile radio services and cordless phones (DECT etc.), WLAN (Wi-Fi) and the radiation of microwave ovens and allows for the detection of the direction and the plane of polarisation of high-frequency signals. A frequency filter facility enables limiting the frequency range to the three bands of mobile telephony GSM 900, GSM 1800 and UMTS (frequency ranges of downlink by the base stations respectively), DECT, UMTS and WLAN (Wi-Fi).
Measuring modes of operation
The options of selective frequency ranges facilitates to assess high-frequency signals. The HFA-3 permits capturing the average value of the non-pulsed portion of the modulated signal and the peak value of the pulsed portion using a peak-hold facility. Additionally an acoustic analysis of the modulation by the implementated speaker or externally connected phones can be done for identifying the high-frequency signals.
Multifunctional indication
The measuring device provides two available units of measure: Measuring values can be received from the device as electric field strength (mV/m) or as radiation density (µW/m²). A bargraph on the display enables the user to get a rapid overview of the measured values. The menu-driven setup of the device is easy to handle by two control keys at the front face of the device.
Multifunctional connectivity
There is optionally available a serial interface (RS232) for HFA-3 with a functional PC software enabling long-term recordings, logging and evaluating the measurements. It also enables to connect an external data logger. An optional analog output for pen recorders provides the measuring values as an analog DC signal.
